Retired U16's 2007 Match
Reports Season 2006-7
23rd April 2007
Ladybridge 1 Hyde
8 (Cup Final)
As you would expect, with the
exception of one player all the other 14 players
in the squad made themselves available, even
though a few were carrying minor knocks or
illness.
The players have had a
magnificent season, but they were to put in a
below par team performance, with the only
possible explanation that nerves played a big
part.
The game started at a high
tempo, and LC were the first to score after
3mins when Liam Pritchard scored a great half
volley on the turn from near the penalty spot.
Could this be the platform for a great
performance and result?
The game continued but it
only took another 2mins before some sloppy play
from LC allowed the equaliser, much to the
disappointment of everyone to LC. All season the
team have given teams a lifeline, usually as the
result of not defending set pieces, or the whole
team not playing a part in breaking down moves
for opponents.
With the score at 1-1, LC had
another chance in the 7th min, when a move
involving Matt Torbitt, Nick Turnbull and Liam
Pritchard, saw as shot from the left go across
goal and agonisingly wide. LC continued the
search of another goal, winning a corner, but
the corner ended behind goal to lose the chance
of continuing the pressure.
On the 13th min, Hyde took
the lead with one of the most bizzare goals you
will ever see. A cross from the by-line near the
corner was mis-hit. As a result it rolled along
the line at a fairly low speed with a player
taking a swing at it and slightly touching it,
the ball continued to roll and the goalkeeper
thought it had gone out. He tried to roll it and
missed it, seeing it roll along the goal line
and stopping just over the line at the far post.
At the 15th min the game had
been end to end, and anyone could have had the
lead. The game continued for the next 15 mins in
the same manner, but on the 30th min Hyde scored
again. Two LC players on the right seemed to
have the two players they were marking
contained, but with them not dealing with a
simple one-two, the ball was sent into the box
with a good cross. With the defender not knowing
how close his opponent was behind him, and
getting no shout from the keeper, he made a
brave attempt to deal with the ball at full
stretch, but the ball went agonisingly off the
very top of his head into the goal from two
yards.
At 3-1 down with two bad
mistakes giving the lead to Hyde, there was
still hope as LC had played just as well as
their opponents, but needed to cut out the
errors. Their play suggested that there was a
way back, and the players heads to their credit
had not gone down.
It only took another 5 mins
though for Hyde to make it 4-1. A corner for
them saw one of their players receive the ball
outside the box and send it home unchallenged.
Still shell-shocked at being 4-1 down, despite
having a good share of the play, Hyde scored
again on the stroke of half time to make it 5-1.
The half time team talk was a
very low time as everyone was shell shocked.
Having a 50-50 share of the play, virtually
handing 4 of the 5 goals on a plate, what could
be changed to sort out the problems. Two of the
three substitutes were bought on, with a change
of keeper at half time. There had been little
flow to the LC play, and they were not breaking
down the play of Hyde effectively. There had to
still be a belief that LC were able to get
something, if not a win at least the ability to
close the gap in the scoreline.
The second half again, like
the first, started with that belief. After 5mins
a Nick Turnbull free kick went just wide. Ten
minutes later the same player hit the post after
an excellent through ball sent him on his way.
But the final nail in the coffin of making a
comeback came midway through the second half.
With players clearing the line, a midfielder did
not follow the rest of the team, playing three
Hyde players onside for an easy tap in to make
it 6-1 to Hyde.
Some angry exchanges of words
showed the disappointment of the situation as
this was the point that there was no way back.
With heads now low there were two further goals
in the last 20 mins to complete the scoreline.
Despite this result, ALL the
players can come out of this season with their
heads held high. A magnificent season has seen
them play superbly as a team. No credit to
individuals, all the players on the pitch today
played as a team. No players who thought the
team couldn't play without them. All players
encouraging each other through thick and thin
when things went wrong, and sharing in the joys
of success during the season. A cup final place
and guaranteed third place in the league, with
progression for the team every season since
1999, is nothing short of superb.
Well done to the lads!
18th April 2007
Ladybridge 2 Signol
2
With a high tempo game, this
was to be good preparation for Sundays cup final
for the twelve players available. With three
players unavailable and two carrying slight
injuries, the objective was to get a result
without any further players getting injured.
With a fast flowing end to
end game, Signol were the first to score midway
through the first half to make it 0-1. LC
responded by taking a hold of the game in search
of an equaliser, which duly came from the
hardworking Nick Turnbull. After a shot was
blocked by a defender, he lobbed the ball over a
crowd of Signol players, including the keeper,
to equalise the score with an excellent finish.
With the one change, Warren
Jones on for the tireless Mike Chilton, the
second half instruction was to continue the
work-rate, tighten midfield, go and win the
game.
The second half was to be
pretty much similar to the first, the only
difference was that both teams were to have more
chances. Signol were to have good periods in the
game, and so were LC.
Signol again took the lead
midway through the half after a pass from the
left was well placed from 20yds into the bottom
corner to give the advantage back to them at
1-2.
Again, LC took hold of the
game and equalised with 15mins to go. With Liam
Pritchard making constant efforts to break down
the defence, a move saw the ball in his
possession which was passed to Nick Turnbull. He
then headed for goal at a tight angle, taking on
two defenders, and hammered the ball home for
the equaliser at 2-2.
The last 15mins saw both
teams make efforts to win, but the whistle was
blown on an end-to-end game.
An excellent example for the
second week running that the team will not lie
down and accept defeat. Another great example of
the teams character.
Even with two matches still
to play, the result should guarantee a third
place league finish, which with a cup final this
weekend, amounts to a very good season. A cup
final win will mean an excellent season.
15th April 2007
Burnage 2 Ladybridge
2
The game ended in a
stalemate, with a match that could have ended in
defeat.
With end to end football in
between the two defences, both teams were
defending well. The ball was in the air bouncing
all over the place in the first half, and
Burnage benefited from this when they scored
from a rare chance before half time to make it
1-0.
With a change of ball in the
second half, there was an opportunity for some
better football to be played. LC equalised when
substitute Matt Torbitt passed a ball down the
left touchline for Andy Jenkins, who sent a
great cross to the far post for Nick Turnbull to
head home from two yards.
With LC having several
chances to get something further, Burnage scored
against the run of play when a diagonal cross
was met in the area to give them the lead again
at 2-1 with only five minutes left.
LC had the bit between their
teeth and put the Burnage goal under siege, and
were rewarded in the last minute with a deserved
equaliser. A LC player was upended in the box
with strong claims for a penalty dismissed by
the referee, however Liam Pritchard played on
and hammered the goal in from a tight angle to
make it 2-2.
The LC team continued to look
for the winner but were beaten by the clock in
their efforts to turn a possible defeat into a
win.
11th April 2007
Ladybridge 2 Glossop
1
Ladybridge County showed
their character by bouncing back to an
impressive victory, against a tough Glossop
Team, thanks to a brace from midfield dynamo
Prest.
Having to now contend with a
hard uneven surface, after weeks of playing on
bogs, LC started brightly and took the game to
their opponents.
With the LC rearguard of
O’Brien, Turrell, Taylor, Baugh and Freer
keeping it tight at the back, it only took 10
minutes for LC to take the lead. Turnbull’s
inswinging corner was hooked home by Prest on
the 6 yard line for a deserved lead.
With Jones, Prest, Grady and
Jenkins working tirelessly in midfield, LC
maintained their grip on the game and got an
important two goal cushion, before half time.
Prest picked up a clearance from the Glossop
keeper, took immediate control and struck a
beauty from 25 yards, that dipped over the
astounded keeper and went in off the bar.
Pritchard went close after a
mazy run took him into the box but under
pressure, his shot went wide.
Despite the hard bouncy
conditions both teams continued to play good
football and LC knew they were up against a
dangerous Glossop Team, that they had not beaten
before in the League. LC were very pleased with
the half-time scoreline of 2-0.
In the second half, it
remained a tight game but LC could have “killed”
the game off, after great crosses from Chilton
and Turnbull, saw Jenkins on both occasions head
narrowly wide.
The second half was marred by
an extremely poor two footed challenge by a
Glossop player on Prest, which resulted in him
being carried off, with a badly bruised foot.
This gave Torbitt the chance to make his
comeback, after breaking his foot, much quicker
than anybody anticipated, providing an
unexpected bonus to the squad.
Glossop were then given a
glimmer of hope, with about 8 minutes left,
scoring from close range, after the ball
appeared to be kicked out of O’Briens hands.
Much to the disappointment of LC, the goal was
allowed to stand, setting up a nailbiting last
few minutes.
However, LC were able to
deservedly hold onto the lead, with Burke being
brought on to make a 5 man midfield. The Glossop
manager sportingly conceded that LC had deserved
the victory, which keeps them in 3rd
place in the League.

Ladybridge 1 Junior
Blues 5
The scoreline suggests a
difference in quality on the day, which there
was, but the margin should have been smaller.
The tempo was high from the
start with end to end football, the problem was
to be that SJB had more of a cutting edge in
their passing and finishing. With only 12
players in the squad for the day, LC were to
find it difficult for each player to get into
the mentality of the role they had to play. As a
result, some of the SJB players were to have far
too much space to play in, though they made
effective passes to their credit anyway.
Within ten minutes, SJB took
the lead after some sloppy marking from a cross.
Not long after they scored a second in similar
circumstances to make it 2-0. A third goal mde
it start to seem that there was no way back,
until Nick Turnbull sent a looping shot over the
keeper to make the scoreline 3-1 with ten
minutes to go until half time.
There were then a couple of
chances for LC to get back into the game, but
all the opportunities came to nothing for one
reason or another. Then, with five minutes to
half time, a LC shot was just about collected by
the keeper, almost stumbling back over the
line. Claims for a goal were made which were
apparently correctly ignored by the referee.
From the keepers kick the ball bounced once to
be hit on the half volley with a good finish
from outside the box to make it 4-1 at half
time.
The second half saw LC show
good character to battle to the end, with
several shots both on and off target with no
reward. The final insult came when a LC
clearance hit a SJB players hand, which was in
front of his chest, who then struck the ball to
score their fifth goal. The claims for handball
were ignored which seemed very harsh, but in any
case the match had ended with the teams first
defeat since 24th September 2006.
25th March 2007
Chorlton 2 Ladybridge
4
This was to be a good test
for LC, as Chorlton have some excellent players
and a pretty decent pitch. Playing against a
strong wind in the first half this week, the
pitch looked good on first inspection, but it
was very uneven and the run of the ball was
occasionally unpredictable. With thirteen
players available the squad was a little
threadbare, with Warren Jones and Danny Burke
starting on the bench.
The game started at a high
tempo with some strong but fair challenges going
in. Both teams were finding their feet and
testing each other for the first ten minutes,
with Chorlton having benefit of the wind behind
them. They took first blood with a goal midway
through the first half, with the play even, to
make it 1-0 to the home team.
Picking the ball out of the
net was the last action for Jamie O'Brien. He
was suffering from the effects of colliding with
the post in the warm-up. He was unable to carry
on and was taken off as a precaution. On came
the more than capable Warren Jones for his first
game between the sticks since early in the
season.
With the play still even, LC
scored the equaliser when the skill of Liam
Pritchard again came to the rescue with a
winding run from the left, which gave him an
opportunity to slot the ball home from a tight
angle to make it 1-1.
With the half time talk being
'carry on and you will get a result' the team
started the second half with the wind behind
them making it a lot easier and less tiring.
With the game still end to end, LC took the lead
after a flick on from a throw gave the hard
working Lau Grady a chance at the far post which
he took well to make it 2-1 to LC.
With 'the wind in their
sails' LC continued pressing, and they were
rewarded with a third goal when the hard working
Mike Chilton battled his way to making a chance,
with the first shot blocked he took his second
well from close range to make it 3-1 to LC.
This seemed to put Chorlton
on the back foot in a game that they had
performed well. It was difficult to see much
between the sides, but LC seemed to be creating
a lot more chances than them. Chorlton had been
passing the ball well, but the LC defence were
dealing with them well in the last 3rd of the
pitch. Chris Baugh and John Freer were giving
nothing away in the middle and were performing
magnificently. Within a few minutes of the third
goal, a fourth effectively finished the game.
Nick Turnbull collected the ball 30yds from goal
and let go a thunderbolt across goal with an
unstoppable strike to make it 4-1 to LC.
With a comfortable lead for
LC, Chorlton pulled one back with ten minutes to
go when a ball off the knee of Danny Turrell was
collected by Warren Jones. This was deemed to be
a back-pass, and the resulting free kick ended
in goal after the clearance was picked up inside
the box to make it 4-2 to LC.
The game continued to be end
to end for the last ten, but the defence of LC
ensured that there was no play resulting in
chances for Chorlton in the last 3rd of the
pitch.
18th March 2007
West End 1 Ladybridge
3 (Cup Semi-Final)
The weather was horrendous
for this fixture, with little chance of anyone
playing flowing football. There was a gale force
wind blowing across the pitch, with hailstone or
rain occasionally falling as well.
West end were finding it more
difficult than LC to get into the game, and the
first goal came for LC after ten minutes, when
Nick Turnbull sent a shot across the keeper from
the right just on the edge of the box with an
excellent finish to make it 1-0.
With the better play from LC
until half time, the conditions saw the ball out
of play for most of the half due to the wind.
When it was in play, LC had the best of
possession with a few chances when they were
able to manoeuvre the ball goalward. Corners
from one side were going over everyone, and from
the other were not reaching the six yard area.
The half time score was 1-0 to LC.
The second half started the
same, and a second goal was scored again ten
minutes in to make it 2-0 to LC. This time an
excellent through ball fell over the shoulder of
the goal bound Nick Turnbull, who then picked
his spot from 18yds out to hammer the ball on
the half volley over the approaching keeper.
Soon after the 2-0 lead was
taken, West End were awarded a penalty when a
cross hit the hand of Andy Jenkins. This seemed
a harsh decision, but as a similar situation had
not seen a penalty awarded earlier, it may have
had a bearing on the penalty decision. The
penalty was struck low and hard, with Jamie
O'Brien going the right way, but it was just out
of reach to give a 2-1 scoreline.
With 15 minutes to go Nick
Turnbull completed his second cup hat-trick of
the season with another excellent finish to seal
the victory at 3-1.
This was an excellent
performance in the conditions. A couple of good
saves from free-kicks by Jamie O'Brien, some
excellent play from Liam Pritchard and Andy
Jenkins were the most obvious contributions, but
every player gave 100% and performed well. In
the end a deserved victory gives the squad
assembled back in 1998 their first Cup Final
place.
The final will be against
Hyde Athletic this year. They defeated Stockport
Junior Blues in the other semi-final. It was 1-1
after normal time and Hyde scored with 5 minutes
to go in extra time.
11th March 2007
Ladybridge 4 Poynton
3
With the sun shining and a
breeze that was strong but not cold, this was to
be a great game for the neutral supporter.
With changes in defence as
Danny Turrell was still carrying an injury,
Chris Baugh was playing in his position. This
was to be a difficult position to defend, as his
opponent in the number 8 shirt was a quality
player and was to cause a constant threat. With
an end to end game, Poynton were the first to
get reward, taking the lead from the right hand
side after 15 mins.
In response to the goal, LC
levelled immediately when Liam Pritchard picked
up a loose ball, beat his defender well, and
placed a superb finish into the corner.
As the game progressed, you
got the feeling that it had turned in LC's
favour with some pressing play, but it was then
that Poynton went back in front to make it 2-1
after some sloppy defending at a free kick.
It was another frustrating
moment for LC, as the hard work all over the
field was not reflected in the scoreline, but
with half time approaching, LC had grabbed the
momentum and were rewarded with another
immediate goal from Nick Turnbull to level at
2-2.
With LC now playing some good
football, John Freer put them in front just
before the half time whistle to give a narrowly
deserved 3-2 advantage.
The second half was to start
with LC slightly on top, but again Poynton
scored a disappointing equaliser to make it 3-3.
This was a kick in the guts for the LC players
as they probably had the better of the play
overall, but let in three sloppy goals.
A hard working performance
continued from both sides for the last 25
minutes. Both teams were pressing forward for a
winner, with some magnificent play in the
midfield from both Poynton and LC. It started to
look like it would be a draw with both teams
cancelling each other out. The worry was that
with three poor errors allowing goals for
Poynton, it may not be LC's day. To continue
pressing but cutting out silly mistakes was the
order for the rest of the game. The LC team were
now working extremely hard to grab the victory,
when with only three minutes to go, Liam
Pritchard snatched the victory with an excellent
trademark finish to make it 4-3. This was reward
for an excellent performance by him, stepping up
his game and covering more and more ground as
the game progressed.
With battling from both teams
in the dying minutes, it was a relief to hear
the whistle after a magnificent end to end game.
Disappointment for Poynton after taking nothing
from a game which they contributed some superb
play.
4th March 2007
Signol 2 Ladybridge
5
On a cold, windy, wet day,
the decision to play the game was a close one as
the pitch was very muddy. The decision was left
to the LC team, who voted 7 against 6 in favour
of playing the game. It was a decision that was
to be a good one, as LC played some excellent
passing football in the conditions.
With Signol probably having a
marginal possession advantage in the first 15
mins, LC started to press more and were rewarded
with a magnificent goal from Liam Pritchard
midway through the half. Liam had beaten several
players on a twisting run into the box, and then
he sent a sweet finish into the bottom corner to
give a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, it was not long
before Signol equalised with sloppy defending
form LC making a contribution.
The half time team talk was
to get out and carry on, but keep concentration,
and the players were complimented on their
excellent play in the conditions
The second half started well
with LC soon going back in front with another
excellent goal from the magnificent Andy
Jenkins. He took the ball in the box with his
back to goal, turned his defender and skilfully
slotted the ball home into the bottom corner.
The reply from Signol was to go down the other
end and score another equaliser with some more
unusually sloppy defending to make it 2-2.
Just before midway through
the second half, Jake Ankers had a go at goal
from outside the box which resulted in his
excellent rocket of a shot hitting the underside
of the bar to take the lead back at 3-2.
With the team now determined
to cut out the silly mistakes, there was some
excellent link play between players all over the
pitch. They were soon rewarded when the hard
working Nick Turnbull scored an excellent goal
with his left foot to give a deserved two goal
cushion. He soon followed this with another
goal, again with his left foot which was scored
after he had taken on and beaten his defender.
There were a couple of
further chances, but the final whistle came with
an excellent team performance resulting in a 5-2
win.
25th February 2007
Ladybridge 2
Hillgate 2
On a day the game was almost
postponed due to a water sodden pitch, LC
dropped a point in this league game.
The match could, and should
have been over at half time, with so many
chances wasted. The pitch had a major say in the
match, but in the first half LC played some
excellent passing football which was difficult
under the circumstances. Midway through, Mike
Chilton made himself a chance and scored it,
which was long waited for after chances were
missed by several players, and prevented by some
good saves from the Hillgate keeper. With one
way attacking play, LC scored another just on
half time with another self created goal by Liam
Pritchard. He took on the defence and slotted
the ball home neatly with a well placed effort.
This was just reward as LC had seen their
attempts tally high into double figures, with
very few chances against, if any.
The half time team talk was a
discussion of all the missed chances, shots
straight at the keeper, and crosses not being
cut back for attacking players to finish. Get
out there and sort it out for more goals was the
message.
With the pitch now even worse
in the second half, it soon became obvious that
the passing seen in the first half was to become
impossible in the middle of the park. Still
looking to increase the lead, more chances were
created, but none were good, as it seemed that
the ball could not be directed goalwards. LC
were snapping at chances with the ball almost
twice the weight that it should have been due to
the mud on it.
With 15 mins left, Hillgate
had a corner that almost went directly into
goal, and the parried touch from the keeper
landed on the foot of a Hillgate player to be
hammered home from close range.
This was a disappointing
moment, but as LC had defended well before this,
it only seemed a minor setback. A few minutes
later though, Hillgate had the bit between their
teeth and scored again with a ball over a casual
defence, that was slotted home well.
With the last ten minutes
being very scrappy, there were a couple of
chances either end, but for the LC players there
was a depressed atmosphere at the whistle, with
Hillgate celebrating.
A timely lesson that you have
to be 100% week in, week out. A bit of luck is
also needed on occasions, and other than credit
for an excellent performance from the Hillgate
goalkeeper, the luck was certainly not on our
side today.
18th February 2007
Ladybridge 3 Apollo
1
Ladybridge were back to
league action and continued the form that has
seen them win the last 11 games.
LC were awarded a penalty in
the first minute after a challenge on Warren
Jones in the box. It was a decision that you
would not be happy if it was given against you,
but it makes a nice change to benefit from a
50/50 decision. The penalty was converted well
by Nick Turnbull, who has netted in all of the
last five games, scoring eight goals in the
process.
The match then continued with
committed play from both sides, and it wasn't
long before LC scored a second. Some excellent
work on the right hand side of the penalty area
resulted in Adam Prest getting the ball with his
back to goal. He made himself the chance and
scored well to give a deserved two goal cushion
at the interval.
The half time team talk was
to continue the good work but to also convert
some of the chances and hard work into goals.
With Danny Turrell taken off after a gritty
challenge saw him come off worse, there were
changes made with a shuffle around of the back
four.
Soon into the second half,
Liam Pritchard created a goal with a twisting
run, again after good work on the right. An
excellent finish with him now having scored a
goal a game since joining LC in January.
The game continued to be a
hard fought battle with a competitive Apollo
team working hard to get something out of the
game. The problem for them was that LC were just
as competitive, but with more quality and
cutting edge to their play. They did however
pull a goal back with a rare chance when the
ball had gone out for a goal kick that was not
awarded. With several players appealing, LC were
told to get on with it and a half chance was
deflected into the top corner of the goal, to
the dismay of the players.
With 12 wins on the trot,
this is another excellent result against another
good team. A special mention for man of the
match Adam Prest, who was magnificent in
midfield and then defence due to changes. He has
obviously been frustrated being out for most of
the season with a bad injury, but since his
return he has been committed, determined and
never shirked a challenge. Another excellent
performance for him which was capped with a
deserved goal.
11th February 2007
Bramhall 1
Ladybridge 2 (Cup Quarter Final)
The U16's took on last weeks
opponents Bramhall in Sundays away Quarter Final
Fixture.
They say a week is a long
time in football and this certainly applies to
Ladybridge after their crushing win only 7 days
before. Ladybridge already knew that Chris Baugh
would not be available for this tie and the news
got worse as the week went on for manager Dave
Booth. Matthew Torbitt had his ankle broken in a
road accident which could have been much worse.
Once again Ladybridge are left with one of their
best players in a plaster cast. Danny Turrell
had still not recovered from a virus so it was
just a squad of 12 that turned up to the swamp
that is Bramhall's pitch.
The game was not certain to
be played on such a poor surface but all the
players were up for the game and it was allowed
to go ahead. Ladybridge forced two penalties in
the first half, the first converted by Nick
Turnbull and then the second by Liam Pritchard
after being brought down on the edge of the box.
The conditions did not allow Ladybridge to play
flowing football and they certainly kept
Bramhall in touch after their lesson on a better
pitch the previous week. Adam Prest, Mike
Chilton, John Freer and Mike Taylor held firm in
defence, Adam doing a sterling job after being
asked to play out of position. Bramhall were
dangerous from set pieces and Jamie O'Brien
pulled off a few excellent saves and handled
well. Warren Jones, Nick Turnbull and Liam
Pritchard all worked hard to carve out chances
that didn't come easy under the conditions.
Bramhall pulled one back late
in the second half which made for a nervous last
ten minutes but Ladybridge stuck out for a well
deserved win. The midfield engine room of Lau
Grady, Andy Jenkins and Jake Ankers were crucial
to the win as their energy and determination
always kept Ladybridge just on top. Credit to
Danny Burke who sat out the game as sub as it
was difficult to pull any of the team away from
such a tight encounter.
So Ladybridge will now
feature in their 2nd Semi Final in succession,
the aim this year is to go one better and reach
the Final.

Ladybridge 7
Bramhall 1
The frustrating wait for a
game ended with a home match against Bramhall.
It was a chance to check out next weeks cup
opponents, and also give the players some
valuable match practice. Liam Pritchard made his
debut, with Danny Turrell and Lau Grady missing
from the usual starting line up due to injury.
The game ended with a
comfortable victory, with goals from Andy
Jenkins, Adam Prest, Liam Pritchard, Matt
Torbitt, Mike Chilton, and two from Nick
Turnbull (one a penalty).
The only return came half way
through the second half.
LC can now start planning for
the cup match next week, the first task being to
forget today's result. There is no doubt
however, that with the right attitude and
approach to the game, LC are well capable of
progressing to cup the semi-final for the second
year running.
7th January 2007 (Cup
Round 2)
High Lane 1
Ladybridge 5
This fixture was against the
high flyers of the third division, with them
having only lost once this season.
As you always expect, there
are no mugs in this competition. Playing with
the assistance of the wind in the first half,
Ladybridge scored the first goal in a half that
could and should have seen more goals for them,
but for some good goalkeeping and wayward
shooting attempts. The goal came from a cross,
from the again superb Andy Jenkins. It was met
by Warren Jones with an excellent volley on the
edge of the six yard area to make it 1-0.
With a battle being created
in the midfield, Jake Ankers and Lau Grady were
performing superbly and smothering out the
threat in front of the defence. With John Freer
and Mike Taylor missing, Adam Prest and Matt
Torbitt filled in superbly. Danny Turrell
performed superbly as usual, but the difference
was that he played against the best player he
has probably had to deal with this season, who
played at No: 15 for High lane... he was a
magnificent player with great attitude and
ability. We even asked him from the touchline to
save something for the second half and give
Danny a rest.
The second half continued to
see a midfield battle, and not before long
Warren Jones headed for goal, winning a penalty
after being upended in the box. The penalty was
coolly converted by Nick Turnbull to make it
2-0.
Another attacking move saw a
great curling effort from Jake Ankers come back
off the post, and Andy Jenkins was alert and
quick enough to slot the ball home from close
range to make it 3-0.
An excellent break then saw
Chris Baugh on the attack from defending after a
one-two with Matt Torbitt. He ran the full
length of the pitch beating several chasing then
challenging players, then after rounding the
goalkeeper near the wide edge of the area,
crossed the ball to Lau Grady who had been
closed down well by the retreating keeper.
An unexpected goal was then
conceded after the High Lane player mentioned at
No:15 was able to get a cross in with Danny
Turrell trying to deal with two wide players.
The cross resulted in a goal leaving Jamie
O'Brien with no chance of a save, and preventing
a clean sheet to make it 3-1.
Danny Burke then came on as
substitute midway through the second half. With
the team playing against the wind, it seemed
like there would be no more goals in the game,
but with Danny given the instruction to get in
at the far post for any crosses he kept to the
instruction. As a result he scored two excellent
goals after good work from now goal provider,
Nick Turnbull.
The victory of of 5-1 was
hard earned, and credit to High Lane for their
part in an excellent game. They will no doubt be
top of their division at the end of the season
on this creditable performance, but as we found
ourselves, the top division is extremely
competitive with not a lot between most of the
teams.
Every player played well
today and they all deserve a mention. What a
problem of team selection for the next match
with two or three more players available.

(Cup Round 1)
Disley 1
Ladybridge 3
An impressive Disley side
were the the opponents in the second round of
the cup. Playing on an extremely soft, muddy
pitch, this was always going to have the feel of
an old fashioned cup tie.
Disley were the first to get
a goal midway through the first half with the
conditions no help, when a mix up from a pass
back ended with an own goal. The best of the
play had previously been from LC, and the goal
didn't change this. A deserved equaliser came
for LC before half time from Nick Turnbull, when
he took the ball with is back to goal and hit it
on the turn after creating his space.
The second half was becoming
worrying as even though LC had good possession,
they were struggling to create good chances and
defending against the break. What could have
been a disastrous turning point then came close
after a Disley player beat Jamie O'Brien to the
ball and sent the ball towards goal, but a
superb last gasp clearance off the line by Chris
Baugh saved the day. Then halfway through time
as Disley seemed to be tiring, Nick Turnbull
scored two goals in quick succession, the first
on the break and the second with an excellent
shot across goal which eventually secured
victory.
Withdrawal of the superb Jake
Ankers due to a knock after another excellent
performance, saw a return of Adam Prest to
action. It was a magnificent boost for the rest
of the squad to see him back in action, and he
showed some of his great ability with some
excellent vision and passing. Great to have him
back!
19th November 2006
Hillgate 1
Ladybridge 2
A competitive game ended with
another good win for LC.
In a first half with the wind
behind them, it was surprising that there were
not more shots from outside the box for LC, they
were however creating chances with some
excellent passing play. The first goal came
midway through the first half when a ball was
knocked forward from defence by Chris Baugh.
The ball soon got to Andy Jenkins whose hard
work and persistence earned him the chance to
poke the ball home after leaving two defenders
behind him. This was soon followed up with
another goal from Warren Jones, who with the
help of Nick Turnbull, again showed persistence
to create a chance and take it. There were a few
more chances before half time, but an excellent
performance gave a 2-0 lead without any
concerns.
The second half continued
like the first, with some more good chances,
but Lau Grady and Jake Ankers were working hard
to keep the pressure off. Hillgate were now with
the wind behind them and they took advantage
with a shot from outside the box across goal,
and Jamie O'Brien had no chance as he saw it go
beyond a great dive into the top corner. Now
eager to get the equaliser Hillgate pressed
forward, but another fantastic defensive
performance ensured that there were no further
goals. Baugh, Freer, Turrell and Torbitt were
magnificent yet again. Some good play in front
of defence by LC could have seen more goals, but
the result was another win with a margin that
could have been more comfortable if a bit of
fortune had come our way.

Apollo 0
Ladybridge 1
This was de ja vous for the
team with a game that was almost an exact copy
of last week.
COPY. This was a superb match
in which both teams impressed with their play,
possession and determination. It is a shame that
someone had to lose, given how the game panned
out.
There were few clear chances
for either team, with both teams defending
extremely well. When there was a chance of
scoring, the defenders for both teams had done a
good enough job for it to be a half chance. A
couple of chances were tipped over or hit the
woodwork for both teams, other than that the
game was played between the penalty areas.
ALMOST A COPY. There were
some good efforts for a goal for each team. The
goal fell in the first half after a magnificent
header from Matt Torbitt crashed against the
bar. The ball cannoned back out to John Freer
who hammered the ball through a crowd of players
from five yards to put LC a goal up.
A couple of chances were well
saved saved by Jamie O'Brien to keep the scores
level. One of the chances was initially dropped,
but he clawed the ball back just in the nick of
time to stop the ball going over the line.
Jamie was in goal again after playing stand in
for Warren Jones for most of the season, but
with Warren establishing himself as an outfield
player, he again played the full game outfield.
The last fifteen minutes saw
LC almost camped out in their own half with some
fair, tough, competitive play from Apollo. They
were unlucky in this period, but some excellent
defending secured the sixth win on the trot for
LC.
5th November 2006
Poynton 0
Ladybridge 1
After a weeks break, LC were
back in action and continuing as they left off
with an excellent win. As has been proven before
by New Mills amongst others, there does not seem
to be a bad team in this division. Points and
league position give no clue when you are
looking at the opposition.
This was a superb match in
which both teams impressed with their play,
possession and determination. It is a shame that
someone had to lose, given how the game panned
out.
There were few clear chances
for either team, with both teams defending
extremely well. When there was a chance of
scoring, the defenders for both teams had done a
good enough job for it to be a half chance. A
couple of chances were tipped over or hit the
woodwork for both teams, other than that the
game was played between the penalty areas.
There were however two very
good scoring opportunities, one for each team.
The first chance was for Poynton, when the ball
fell to one of their players in the penalty
area. His great shot was saved magnificently
with a top class save by Jamie O'Brien to keep
the scores level. Jamie was in goal after
playing stand in for Warren Jones for most of
the season, but with Warren changing the second
half of the last two games with his outfield
play, he played the full game outfield. This
proved to be a good move with him scoring the
only goal. A quick throw was taken by the hard
working Nick Turnbull, which Warren took down
superbly and slotted home into the bottom corner
for the winner.
A superb team performance
where nobody deserved to be substituted, and all
the available squad played a part.
22nd October 2006
Ladybridge 3 New
Mills 1
The team seem to be in the
habit of winning a game in 40 minutes. A half
time rollocking is a second half win, and a half
time pat on the back is a first half win.
This week, newly promoted New
Mills were the visitors, and they took the lead
from a free kick. Poor defending seemed to be to
blame for this after the visitors had few
chances but a good share of possession. A Nick
Turnbull penalty was a well placed final kick
of the first half to level the score at 1-1.
In the second half, LC played
a lot better and made a better share of
possession count. A superb volley from the
corner of the penalty area by Mike Chilton put
LC into the lead, with a shot across goal that
gave the keeper no chance. The lead was
increased when a corner from Jake Ankers was met
well by the head of Nick Turnbull, for his
second and LCs third. A few more chances for LC
in the game, but the score was a fair result
against a battling New Mills.
15th October 2006
Ladybridge 3
Burnage 2
Another game of two halves
this week saw a deserved victory against a
battling Burnage side. The first half was very
scrappy with little attractive play. The ball
spent most of the time above heads and LC seemed
unable to get the ball down and play football.
When they did, any through ball ended up going
into touch or to the keeper due to playing with
the wind behind them. Two terrible decisions
gifted a goal to Burnage to give them a half
time lead of 1-0. After a challenged header gave
LC possession, the game played on to be stopped
after protests as there was a Burnage player
down. An unbelievable decision was then given at
the restart as Burnage were given a free kick.
Needless to say, the ball ended straight in the
LC net for a bizarre goal direct from the kick,
before the keeper had even had chance to sort
the wall.
In the second half, LC were
refused a goal even though the ball was clearly
over the line. This was seeming to be heading
for a hard luck story, but with Warren Jones
coming on at half time in an attacking role, the
momentum started to change. Mike Chilton battled
to win a loose ball, which he then cut back for
Matt Torbitt to send home in net busting style.
Soon after a great run from
Warren Jones resulted to a pass ower the penalty
area, then a great ball was sent into the box
again, and a header was parried for Mike Chilton
to beat team-mate Warren Jones to the loose ball
to scramble it home. Now with a 2-1 advantage LC
were on top, and it wasn't long before another
run from Warren Jones ended with a ball to Nick
Turnbull, who did well to turn and loop the ball
over the Burnage keeper.
At 3-1 up it seemed pretty
cut and dry as LC were still in attacking mood,
but a corner for Burnage gave them hope when
after a couple of players got something on the
ball, there was a player with some space to head
the ball home.
A battling performance in the
second half ended securing the 3-2 win without
further difficulty.
8th October 2006
Bramhall 2
Ladybridge 3
This was definitely a game of
two halves. A 3-0 advantage after only half an
hour should have made the victory easier. The
scoring opened early on after a corner from Jake
Ankers was converted by John Freer with a header
at the near post. The next goal came from Nick
Turnbull after his first shot was saved at close
range, but he closed in to score from the loose
ball. The third goal was the best of the bunch,
with the impressive Andy Jenkins causing his
usual problems on the left sending a superb far
post cross for the hard working Mike Chilton to
head home.
Now cruising, all looked a
little too easy until Bramhall scored when a
loose ball in the box fell for a shot to make it
3-1. LC then looked to again increase the lead
but half time came with no further goals.
The second half saw a more
pressing Bramhall have an equal share of the
play, with them spending a better percentage of
the play in the LC half. The attacking side of
the LC play seemed to have started to suffer as
the ball was not getting to the usual outlets.
There were few chances at either end but
Bramhall still managed to snatch a goal when a
twisting turn on a sixpence saw the player hit
the ball over the keeper, which went in just
under the bar.
The game then continued for
the last 15mins seeing few good chances and the
game ending in a fair result of a 3-2 win for
LC.
1st October 2006

Chorlton 0
A hard working performance
earned LC a deserved win against Chorlton. The
game could almost have been over at half time
with some unlucky LC chances going narrowly wide
or saved easily. LC went a goal up with a
contender for goal of the season. A hard working
Andy Jenkins ran down a ball near the corner
flag, and after wriggling his way to make space
he cut back a magnificent left footed cross,
which in turn was met with a superb header by
Nick Turnbull which could have burst the net.
From nothing to a goal in seconds.
After continued attacking
play by LC, closing things down and working
hard, the game started to even out until LC won
a free kick on the edge of the centre circle.
With the wind behind him, Jake Ankers only had
one thing on his mind, a goal. He hammered the
ball goalward and scored an excellent goal in
off the crossbar to make it 2-0. With half time
approaching LC were unlucky not to increase
their lead.
The second half also started
with a LC chance that went narrowly wide, then
the game evened out again. Some excellent
defending and a gritty battle in all other areas
of the pitch ensured a deserved first win of the
season. This result means that after a difficult
start this season LC have one more point than
the corresponding fixtures last season. Put into
perspective, and noting the good performances in
the previous three defeats, things are now
looking a lot better.

Junior Blues 6
Ladybridge 2
Ladybridge can now see the
wood through the trees with the third difficult
match played. It is difficult enough playing
last seasons champions, but with four players
out injured and only ten outfield players
available and two goalkeepers, the task is even
greater.
Players were shifted into
different positions and some occasional
calamitous play saw LC concede four goals in the
first half, with a return of one when a cross
from Matt Torbitt beat everyone and found its
way into the net.
Goalkeeper Warren Jones was
used as an outfield player as the only
substitute in the second half. A determined
performance was given from all players, with the
credit going to them that they never gave up.
Trying to chase the game in the second half was
very tiring, but two goals from JB's was still
an improvement. An excellent LC goal from Andy
Jenkins, making his own chance and then scoring
it, makes him the fist player in over a year to
lead the scoring stakes in front of Nick
Turnbull.
In the end a lot of hard work
ended in defeat. It was nice though to have a
proper, fair and neutral official at an away
game, thanks to a league allocation.
It's hard to believe that LC
have not even got a point yet, with this game
being the first in which they can't have any
complaints about the result.
Back to slightly easier
opposition for a few games will now give LC
chance to get some points on the board.
17th September 2006
Ladybridge 2 Hyde 3
A fantastic game had a
greatly disappointing result and a player
sidelined for at least two months. Adam Prest
was carried off after challenging a header. It
later became apparent that the infamous
metatarsal bone in his foot had been crushed by
the landing foot of his opponent. With a leg in
plaster everyone wishes him a speedy recovery at
the height of his form.
In the game which saw LC go
0-1 down to equalise with an excellent passing
goal from Andy Jenkins. A midfield battle with
few chances either end saw Hyde go 1-2 up from a
free kick. Even the vocal Hyde players were
heading back into their own half when the
whistle was blown, only to find the free kick
was theirs. The ball sent in out of the reach of
Warren Jones for the goal.
Another free kick gave the
equaliser for LC with a superb free kick from
Jake Ankers going in from the underside of the
bar to make it 2-2.
Heading towards injury time
yet another free kick saw the Hyde winner with a
kick skimming of the stretching head of defender
Chris Baugh to go agonisingly just inside the
post for the winner. If he had an afro the
header would have been enough to save the day.
Highly disappointing result.
If the saying 'swings and roundabouts' has
anything in it, the next two games will be poor
performances with two wins.
10th September 2006
Glossop NE 3
Ladybridge County 0
It was a disappointing start
to the season with a result that does not
reflect on the game. With first half stats that
showed Ladybridge with shots of 11-2, and
corners of 9-0, the scoreline was the thing that
mattered being one goal down. The goal was a
deflected effort that wrong footed the
goalkeeper and gave him no chance with a shot
from ten yards.
Into the second half with no
worries, after 20 mins LC went another goal down
after the keeper came out to clear the ball,
only for it to be chipped back before he could
get back on his line to make it 2-0 down.
Endless chances, half chances
and corners for LC were to no avail, with the
fate sealed after a clearly offside goal was
allowed. A bad day for the squad with poor
finishing being the problem and no advantage
taken to convert the endless chances into goals.
Pre-season 2006
30th August 2006
Ladybridge County U16's
1 Ladybridge County U17's 1
A hard fought game between
two committed teams ended in a stalemate. This
match of end to end action ended with a result
that was a fair reflection of the game. First
blood was for the U16's after a couple of early
half chances at each end. The goal was scored by
Nick Turnbull with an almost overhead lob from
four yards out. It was a through ball that he
looped over the head of the keeper into the top
corner just out of the keepers reach. More end
to end action with each team taking control for
short periods, went into half time at 1-0.
The second half was much the
same with the U17's scoring the equaliser from a
throw-in. The ball was sent into the box and a
shot from 15yds out was well placed around the
goalkeeper. More half chances either end and the
final whistle ended a game in which both teams
impressed. A good, first competitive match of
the new season for both teams.

(see the photographs)
We had two teams in the
Spurley Hey Tournament who performed superbly
with both teams undefeated in the group stages.
Team A drew three and won three in the
group stage finishing second. They were then
extremely unlucky in a quarter final penalty
shoot out, after being eight-a-piece on spot
kicks with their keeper saving in sudden death.
The team did not concede a single goal all day
in open play. Team B won 2 and drew four
finishing top in a tight group. In contrast,
They won a quarter final penalty shoot out
six-to-five, and then won the semi-final 2-0 on
penalties with Warren Jones making two saves.
However, they ended unlucky runners-up in the

Special mentions.
Every single player had an excellent tournament,
but three players spring to mind in special
mentions. Trialists Lau Grady and Mike Chilton
were absolutely superb in their first
competitive matches. It seems that they must
have sealed places in the squad on these
energetic and competent performances. The other
player is Matty Booth. Magnificent and confident
with the best football he has played after being
on the touchline on many occasions last season.
If there was not a need to rotate the team,
Matty would have played every minute of every
game with this performance.
Season 2005-2006
30th April 2006
Ladybridge County 1
Glossop NE 3
This was a disappointing end
of season result for LC. With an early kick off
of 10am, LC didn't start until 10.30 and were
2-0 down by that time. A goal back before half
time should have been the start of a comeback,
but with the second half starting as the first
half the momentum seemed to have been lost. The
ball should have been played on the ground more
as this produced the best football, but with a
couple of influential midfielders missing it was
always an uphill battle. The third for GNE came
with an own goal as LC struggled to make any
good headway, and a few following chances were
missed by LC. The end result was not a fair
reflection on the game but a anything less than
a win would have been unfair on Glossop.
Improvements are needed for next season if we
are to make a good challenge for trophies.
26th April 2006
Ladybridge County 2
Bramhall North 1
It was back to winning ways
after playing the two teams that are established
in the top league. The scoreline was the only
thing in this fixture that was close. A goal in
the first quarter from Chris Baugh gave LC the
lead after a corner fell loose in the box and
was hammered into the top of the net. It was
then continued pressure and goalmouth action
from LC, with some good chances going close, but
it was not until the second half when the second
goal was scored by Nick Turnbull. The game
should have then been settled after a couple of
more chances, but a rare opportunity was taken
by BN after a long ball over the top of the
defence was calmly curled around Jamie O'Brien
to pull a goal back. A possible shout for a
penalty was turned down for LC after contact on
the edge of the box saw Nick Turnbull floored,
but with a parent referee the decision was not
clear cut enough. A couple of injuries for LC
caused slight concern, but with only one game to
go will give the squad a deserved break after a
fantastic season. The objective is now to secure
another win and finish as high as high as
possible in the league.
19th April 2000
Stockport Junior Blues 3
Ladybridge County 0
This result showed the semi
final defeat of 3-0 was no fluke, not to say
that anyone said it was. An impressive SJB side
had a deserved win in this match showing why
they are league champions and cup finalists.
Some very impressive performances from LC were
not enough, with Danny Turrell and Jamie O'Brien
standing out especially. Working hard up front
with Nick Turnbull and James Daniels, the key to
the game was a defensive shut-out by SJB. A few
chances for LC were frustratingly not converted,
with the only three by SJB resulting in
goals.... two from set pieces. With five players
unavailable this match was always going to be
difficult, but LC were never embarrassed by the
best opponents of the season by far. A fantastic
first season in the top league can't be ignored
by our opponents with further room for
improvement for next season.
9th April 2006
Ladybridge County 2
Reddish Vulcans 3
This was a typical game of
two halves. This was a scrappy game as both
teams were determined to win, played on a pitch
that was very soft and boggy. Two goals conceded
in quick succession midway through the half were
not a true reflection of the game. It appeared
that LC were to have a chance to pull one back
with a penalty just before half time, but the
referee was just too far away to give a
judgement and the RV assistant holding the flag
'could not see' and was unable to assist his
decision. The free kick went over the bar, so it
was into half time 2-0 down.
With the team well and truly
slated at half time, things started to look
better until another scrappy goal was conceded.
The team then started to press forward with
tactical changes in place. Two goals from
leading scorer Nick Turnbull then changed the
game. An equaliser was agonisingly close when
Matty Booth hit the post with a great shot, and
continued pressure almost gave the equaliser,
but it was left just too late and the game ended
2-3.
Such was the pressure against
RV, that their management had a big rant at the
LC linesman about an offside decision, even
though this had no bearing on the scoreline or
result. They may now find themselves in trouble
with the league if the referee reports the
incident.
26th March 2006
Priory County 0
Ladybridge County 6
With the team back in league
action, this was a convincing win against a team
fighting relegation. Only Jake Ankers was
unavailable due to injury. LC went into half
time two goals to the good with a double from
Andy Jenkins. With LC playing against a strong
wind in the first half, there could have been
more goals but for the difficult conditions.
Jamie O'Brien had to be on his toes with a
couple of great tips over the bar.
With several changes at half
time, the game was a little easier with the
weather not causing quite as many problems. With
Warren Jones playing the game in attack, he
scored a double and was unlucky not to have a
hat-trick. An excellent performance from Andy
Jenkins was capped with his third goal and his
first hat-trick in competitive football. He
could have increased his tally but for some good
defending and goalkeeping. Nick Turnbull worked
hard in search of a goal, and was rewarded half
way through the second half. With a lot of
changes during the game it was difficult to play
to a pattern, but all the squad adapted well and
there were many good contributions all over the
pitch.
The four final games will see
us play three of the top five in the league,
but with us beating two of them already this
season we should be able to maintain our high
league position.
19th March 2006
Cup Semi-Final Stockport
Junior Blues 3 Ladybridge County 0
The good cup run ended with a
defeat against the cup favourites. Outsiders
could look at this result and say this was an
expected outcome, but the result was not a true
reflection of the game. The first half saw all
the goals, a half in which SJB were the better
team and deserved leaders, but the three goals
(with two that could be classed as own goals)
were the only real chances at either end. LC had
a great spell of pressure for about 15mins in
this half, but the SJB defence was proving
difficult to break down.
The second half was more of a
match with all substitutes making a
contribution. One great save by Warren Jones was
the only real action in the LC area, and LC had
a large number of half chances that came to
nothing. A good defensive display from SJB was
the key to this result, but a good all round
performance from LC in a difficult game.
Jake Ankers was playing with
an injury that eventually saw him carried off
early in the second half, and John Freer was cup
tied. We now look forward to playing them in the
league with all our players, as this will give
us the chance to show that the gap between us is
a lot smaller than this scoreline suggests.
5th March 2006
Apollo Juniors 2 Ladybridge
County 9
This fixture saw us play
against the team that pipped last seasons side
to the division 2 title. It appears that the
gulf has widened further since the first meeting
earlier in the season. The 3-1 advantage at half
time seems like a small one, but this was more
down to the parent referee, as LC could and
should have had more goals without conceding.
This included a missed penalty by Apollo, which
was justice done after a ridiculous and
unjustified award. The second half was more of a
stroll with both ability and fitness assisting
in the resulting 9-2 win. The most notable event
in the goalscoring stakes was a scorcher of a
shot giving Mike Taylor his first goal of the
season.
26th February 2006
Ladybridge County 2
Glossop N E 1
A thrilling cup tie resulted
in a deserved victory for LC. A great team
performance with several outstanding individual
performances saw the team go into half time two
goals in front, after goals from Nick Turnbull.
The second half was pretty much the same with
the tempo slightly slower, but as you would
expect in a cup tie it was end to end action. LC
were creating the better chances but Glossop
scored with a far post header when LC had made a
claim for offside. The decision wasn't given in
favour of LC as the goal stood with several LC
players doing the same waiting for the whistle.
A couple of great saves by Warren Jones made
sure he played his part, and with a midfield
battle having an influence on the result, the
match finished in a deserved victory. The first
semi-final for this age group is nothing more
than they deserved. Now only 80 minutes from the
final and there has not been a team this season
who has had an easy game. Make no mistake,
Glossop are a very good team and Stockport
Junior Blues will not be looking forward to
meeting us in the semi-final.

Ladybridge County 9
Priory County 0
A comfortable win for LC with
three players missing from the squad. A good
goalscoring exhibition from leading scorer Nick
Turnbull saw LC go into half time with a 5-0
lead. This was after an early chance for Priory
with an excellent shot coming back off the
crossbar, but this was to be their only real
chance. With the game effectively won at the
break, the squad was rotated several times. For
the last 20 minutes, and at 7-0 down, Priory
were forced to play with ten men after their
goalkeeper limped off with an injury. Warren
Jones took to playing outfield with Adam Prest
in goal for the last 10 minutes. Jamie O'Brien
also played outfield for most of the second half
and showed some good touches, but the second
half glory fell to Warren Jones with a right
foot shot giving him a rare outfield goal to
seal the game at 9-0.

Signol Athletic 2
Ladybridge County 1
This was an extremely
disappointing defeat in a carbon copy of the
last game against Signol. A penalty conceded
well against the run of play put Signol a goal
up. With all the attacking coming from
Ladybridge, it seemed a minor setback until
Signol scored again. Another great performance
from Ladybridge saw another second half of
domination which included a goal and several
good chances and half chances. A goal ruled out,
the woodwork to the rescue, some good saves, all
this ended in disappointment for the second
time. Do you believe in having a 'jinx team'.
Everyone was baffled and extremely disappointed
with this 2-1 defeat. Will Glossop feel the
backlash of this result in the cup next week?
22nd January 2006
Hyde Athletic 1
Ladybridge County 1
A hard fought draw was fought
against an aggressive Hyde set up. Hyde parents,
players and the manager were constantly
complaining about anything an everything in this
match and shouted insults across the pitch. The
game resulted in a 1-1 draw after LC scored
early on with a header from a corner. The game
was a constant, hard tackling midfield game
with some strange decisions. Hyde equalised with
a penalty that no player had even claimed late
in the first half. A gritty second half
performance resulted in a credible point for LC.
8th January 2006
Woodley Albion 1
Ladybridge County 3
Ladybridge are through to the
next round of the cup after a win against a
persistent Woodley Albion team. Ladybridge took
a deserved lead with a good goal from Nick
Turnbull in the middle of the first half, but
Woodley scored with one of their few chances
just before half time. With second half goals
from Nick Turnbull and Matty Nolan, they
deservedly go into the next round draw after a
good, battling performance.
18th December 2005
Ladybridge County P
Bramhall North P
Match against Bramhall North
postponed due to frozen areas of the pitch that
were dangerous. The under 15s match was
scheduled for an 10.45 kick off. A pitch
inspection by the referee resulted in the match
being postponed. This was due to parts of the
pitch with no grass, such as the goalmouths,
being particularly dangerous and frozen. This
applied to the middle and far pitches at
Bradshaw Hall.

Chorlton Sports 0
Ladybridge County 7
Nick Turnbulls hat-trick in a
convincing 7-0 away win against Chorlton Sports
moved him further ahead in the goalscorer
charts. Other scorers were Jake Ankers, Adam
Prest, Chris Baugh and Ben Connolly. A fantastic
squad performance with changes due to three key
players being unavailable. New signing John
Freer took position in central defence alongside
Chris Baugh, which proved to be a good
partnership. This was instrumental in the team
keeping the third clean sheet of the season in
the league. |
